Mt. Vernon High School will be performing ImPACT (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) concussion testing this spring for all enrolled Freshman and Junior student athletes.
ImPACT is a computerized exam which is currently being utilized by many professional, collegiate, and high school sports programs throughout the country. The exam is used to properly diagnose and manage concussions.
The test is a non-invasive computerized exam which is set up in a video game format. The test takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete. It tracks information such as memory, reaction time, speed, and concentration. Essentially the ImPACT test is a preseason physical of the brain. MVHS is offering this testing for student athletes during grades nine and eleven while enrolled at Mt. Vernon High School.
The computerized exam will be considered the athlete’s “baseline.” If a player suffers a concussion, subsequent ImPACT tests may be administered and compared to the original test. ImPACT testing provides a tool that can be used in conjunction with other tools or assessment techniques to determine when an athlete can safely return to play following a concussion.
The Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer will be administering this test for the athletes. Please have your child sign up for one time slot to take the test. Testing will occur at 7:00 a.m. on both Wednesday, March 22nd and Thursday, March 23rd for spring sport athletes. We will also perform the testing after school at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 23rd for non-spring sport athletes. Space is limited! As such, there will be sign-up sheets on the doors of the Athletic Office and Athletic Training Room.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call the Athletic Office at
