No problem! MVHS will offer this testing again the first week of fall sport practices starting July 30. Or, the St. Vincent Sports Concussion Alliance has an opportunity as well!
The St. Vincent Sports Concussion Alliance is a partnership between Tri-State Orthopaedic Surgeons, ProRehab, and St. Vincent. The purpose of the alliance is to provide guidance and care to the community for the prevention and treatment of concussions for student-athletes. Coaches, parents, teachers, and students rely on this organization to ensure that athletes receive state of the art medical care and ongoing support for healthy participation in athletics. We are excited to offer opportunities for education and baseline testing during Concussion Awareness Week July 9th-14th and hope that you can join us! During this week there will be opportunities for coaches, athletic directors, counselors, teachers, parents, and athletes to learn more about concussions and free ImPACT baseline testing. Please refer to the attached information for details such as time and location of events.
Those attending the coaches and school personnel on Monday evening, July 9th, are encouraged to RSVP to Maura Muensterman at email@example.com but not required for attendance. Dr. Thomas Weinzapfel, St. Vincent Pediatrician and Medical Director of St. Vincent Sports Concussion Alliance, will speak to coaches, athletic directors, counselors, teachers, and physicians about The Evolution of Concussion Management and the purpose behind the current recommendations and treatments. In addition, a panel of experts who treat patients with concussions will be there to answer questions and talk about the reason behind the therapies. The panel will include orthopaedics, athletic trainers, physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Light refreshments will be served.
A parent meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 10th and Dr. Thomas Weinzapfel, St. Vincent Pediatrician and Medical Director of St. Vincent Sports Concussion Alliance, will speak to parents about how to keep your athlete safe and what to expect should they suffer a sports concussion. In addition, you will hear from a panel of experts who treat patients with concussions about what to expect and the reason behind the therapies. The panel will include orthopaedics, athletic trainers, physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
