On a beautiful fall day, the Mt. Vernon Boys’ Cross Country team traveled to Princeton to compete in the final Big 8 Conference cross country meet . Knowing it would be a tough race going in, the guys gave it there best!
Jasper placed 6 runners in the top 10, while both Vincennes and Washington each had 2 rounding out the “All-Conference” honors. Mt. Vernon was led by Junior Braden Dike who just missed out by 1.4 seconds. Braden completed the 3 mile course in 16:48.66 which is his fasted time of the season. Tommy Kelley ran second for the ‘Cats finishing in 20th in just a shade over 17:37. Carson Tucker regained his 3rd place spot finishing in 31st with a time of 19:56. Just under 20 seconds behind was Ethan Sutfin is 32nd place. Micah Luckett was the final scoring position finishing the race in 35th. Keith Alstadt finished in 36th while Blake Morris was 37th.
In the reserve race, Seth Dewar completed the course in 22:52 while Malaki Harms set a new PR with a 25:38.8.
With the course being about 160 m short, runners can expect to add 25-35 seconds to the final time to figure what a true 3.1 would have been. All in all, the guys ran very well and they left it all out on the course! We are looking forward to next week’s sectional race at Angel Mounds.
