The Wildcats finished in the middle of the field today at the Boonville Invite. This was a very competitive finish for Mt. Vernon as the top 6 places were a foregone conclusion with only the final placing of the schools in question. The rest of the field was up for grabs.
Heritage Hills’ Mitchell Hopf ran away with the top spot while Tuesday’s dual winner, Jackson Kreig of Princeton, finished 2nd. South Knox took the team win as their top 3 runners were all in the top 10. Three schools did not have the required 5 runners to field a team score.
Leading the ‘Cats today was Tommy Kelley who ran strong all race and continued to work his way to the front finishing in 12th place. His running partner, Braden Dike, finished in 23rd for his first big invite and first time running at Boonville. Danner Latshaw ran 3rd for the ‘Cats finishing the 3.1 mile race 50th out of 147 runners. Braden Henning was 76th in his first race at Boonville and Mitchell Wilson rounded out the scoring for Mt. Vernon in 89th place. Also running for MV was Seth Dewar finishing in 127th.
While not all sectional opponents were in today’s invite, in comparison to those who were, Mt. Vernon was 5th in team scoring and finished 2nd in conference opponents only bested by Princeton. The ‘Cats continue to have their work cut out for them, but they are up to the challenge!
