Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity still held off Tecumseh for a 6-5 victory on Monday. Tecumseh scored three runs in the failed comeback on a, a single by Chase Howell, and a single by Gage Green.
Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity earned the victory despite allowing Tecumseh to score three runs in the seventh inning. Tecumseh’s big inning was driven by singles by Howell and Green and by Spencer Buse.
Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity notched three runs in the fifth inning. Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity put the pressure on, lead by a walk by Breckan Austin and a single by DJ Brakie.
Tyler Walls was the winning pitcher for Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity. He went five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking one. Hunter Wiltshire threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Steven Molinet took the loss for Tecumseh. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out six.
Bronson Quinzer, Brakie, Wiltshire, Luke Harris, and Kaden Hamilton each collected one hit to lead Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity. Mt. Vernon Wildcat Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brakie had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
Tecumseh tallied 13 hits on the day. Molinet, Dustin Dupont, Buse, and Pete Brucken each racked up multiple hits for Tecumseh. Molinet led Tecumseh with three hits in four at bats.
