Sophomore Braden Dike competed in his first race at Brown County in Saturday’s IHSAA Cross Country Semi-State. This race features 180 runners from the southern portion of the state which needless to say includes some of the best in the state! As always, the race is packed, it is flat, it is fast, and it is a major learning experience!
In a race that was won in a time of 15:31.5 there were 23 runners all under 16:30. Overall, Braden finished 94th with a time of 17:35. While he had hopes to run a pace similar to last week, we are extremely proud of Braden! The course and the competition typically make runners adjust their race plans as the leaders go out very fast, the number of competitors make the course packed and there are trails through the woods that are not conducive for passing. However, Braden moved up several places during his second lap as he ran strong and continued to pass runners all of the way through the 150 m long finish chute. Braden’s comment after the race was, “I wish it had hills!”
Congratulations a very successful first season. We look forward to returning our strong 1-2 punch for next season in both Braden and Tommy Kelley. Along with Seth, these guys will help us to rebuild and recruit more runners into our program.
Thanks guys for your hard work and thank you parents for your support. Good Luck to all of our guys as they move into their next sports season at MVHS.
