Last night our girls varsity cross country team traveled to Gibson Southern High School for their Alan Hopewell Class Invitational. The race was divided up into a Senior/Junior race and a Freshman/Sophomore race.
The Wildcats began with the Jr/Sr race where seniors, Taylor Collins, Kat Bellew, Alison Long, and Sabrina Vaughn raced. Alongside their race was also Junior, Emma Thompson.
Taylor Collins came in 12th for the Wildcats and came in with a time of 22:32 which was 1:12 faster than last week. Kat Bellew maintained her pace while Sabrina Vaughn also improved her time from last week by over 3 minutes.
Junior Emma Thompson received a medal last night for her 5th place finish overall. She came in with a time of 21:38 which is a personal best for this season so far!
The upperclassman placed 5th overall out of 15 teams! I enjoy seeing these girls maintain their leadership for our team. They have a work ethic that exceeds the rest and we can’t wait to see how the rest of the season goes.
Our second race of the night brought back multiple medals and the title of champions!! Freshman, Kaden Leverenz, Kori Leverenz, Sophie Kloppenburg, and Kaylen Salee won the invite with a score of 9. Close second was South Knox with a score of 13. The girls won the invite out of 15 teams who attended the meet last night.
Kaden Leverenz received a 2nd place medal with a time of 20:31, Kori Leverenz came in 3rd getting her a medal at 20:32, Sophie Kloppenburg also brought home a medal at 4th coming in at 21:15. All three top freshman ran a personal best last night. The most improved of the night went to Kaylen Salee who cut over 3 minutes from her time just last week. I’m very proud of the hardwork and dedication that these underclassman bring to their team and teammates. The character and work ethic goes beyond their years and we are very excited to see where that hardwork takes them this season. Great job again to our underclassman for bringing home a win for the Wildcats!!
