Mt. Vernon girls traveled to Petersburg, Indiana today to compete in the Pike Central Invitational. This course is located at Prides Creek State Park consisting of many hills. The team score consisted of a tie breaker going to Memorial High School at 5th place and a one point difference going to Gibson Southern for 4th. The Wildcats came to compete at this regional preview course and they are ready to take on Conference in next weeks race at Princeton.
Our freshman bunch on the team once again came to compete, with three placing in the top 10. Freshman, Kori Leverenz came in first for the group in 6th place at a time of 20:58. Next, freshman Sophie Kloppenburg finished 7th at 21:00. Freshman, Kaden Leverenz finished in 8th place with a time of 21:12. All three improved time since the last meet despite going against tough competitors.
Other competitors for the Wildcats were senior, Taylor Collins finishing at 53rd with a time of 24:15. Our team captain stayed strong through the whole race and plays it smart as she runs this kind of race. Kennah Keller, Alison Long, and Kat Bellew are vital finishers when it comes to contributing to the team scores. They pushed through the challenge for the Wildcats with Kennah at 102nd, Alison at 104th and Kat finishing at 105th.
Again, the girls will compete at the Big 8 Conference race in Princeton next week where we expect big things to happen. We wish the running Wildcats the best of luck!
