Mount Vernon Girls Tennis refused to mark their senior night with a loss, managing a tough win over Bosse that was appropriately capped off by two seniors. Mount Vernon’s #1 doubles pairing of seniors Cora Epley and Leah Bilskie were down early against Bosse’s Macey Hammond and Kyleigh Mayer, dropping the first set 6-7(2). As they started a comeback in the second set, their teammates began closing out much needed matches. Seniors Bryley Harms and Janell Schirtzinger made quick work of Bosse’s #2 doubles team of Athena Dare and Diana Joest, leaving the court with 6-0, 6-1 victory. Mount Vernon’s #1 singles Morgan Woods followed shortly after, closing out her match 6-2, 6-3. Maggie Jones at #2 singles (1-6, 2-6) and senior Maggie Collins at #3 singles (4-6, 0-6) both ran into game competitors in Bosse’s Chloe Perry at #2 and Alexa Wheeler at #3, who fought to ensure overall victory would come down to the last match. While these matches finished, Mount Vernon’s #1 doubles took the second set 6-4. The deciding set would be more of the same for the duo of Epley and Bilskie who used more strategy and guile on the court than power and shot-making to secure the victory 6-2 in the third.
