The Mt. Vernon girls Cross Country team competed at the semi-state meet in Brown County Saturday morning. Everyone was in for a challenge as the runners endured the heavy rain, mud, and deep puddles during the course. However, the Wildcats stayed positive and came prepared to race.

The top seven runners for the Wildcats each raced well despite the weather, although none of the girls were able to advance on to the state meet.

Individual scores for the girls team were, Sophie Kloppenburg coming in 47th for the team, Kori Leverenz at 57th, Kaden Leverenz coming in at 81st, 128th was Taylor Collins, Emma Thompson 135th, Kennah Keller at 165th, and Kathryn Bellew 168th.

The girls ran against some of the top teams of the state and competed well against them all. Making it to the semi-state meet was the team goal this year and they were able to work hard to make it to this point.

This team is one of a kind that continued to make history this 2019-2020 season. A conference championship, sectional championship, 2nd in Regionals, and 16th at semi-state are just a few of the amazing things this team was able to accomplish this season. Amazing job this year girls cross country!! We are so PROUD of you all!!

Seniors that the XC team will be sending off are Taylor Collins, Kathryn Bellew, Alison Long, and Sabrina Vaughn. Their leadership is one that can’t be replaced and we will miss them. We wish them the very best in their future endeavors!! Good luck seniors!!
