The girls cross country team traveled to Petersburg this morning with Senior, Emma Thompson and Sophomore, Sophie Kloppenburg to compete in the regional meet.
The two girls qualified for this regional meet after placing in the top 10 of the Sectional meet.

Sophomore, Sophie Kloppenburg had one impressive race at this hilly course. This is her 3rd time running here this season so she was in a strong mindset having had the experience. Sophie came out in her first mile of the race at a 6:04. This is about 15-30 seconds faster than her usual times showing that she came to compete.
Throughout the race, she stayed placed in the top 10 and her final place coming across the line was 7th. She ended the 3.1 miles at a time of 19:56. This is 25 seconds faster than her regional time last year. Sophie will continue her cross country season representing the Wildcats at the semi-state meet in Brown County, Indiana next Saturday.

Congratulations Sophie!! We are so proud of you!!

Our next regional qualifier was senior, Emma Thompson. This is the 3rd time for Emma to get to run this course as well and each time she improved her time. She was ready to compete for her last time at this meet representing the Wildcats.
Emma came across the 1 mile mark with a time of 6:14. This is about 15 seconds faster than her usual race pace. Emma continued to battle throughout the race with multiple runners around her. She attacked the down hills and came across the finish line at a place of 47th and a time of 21:57. Although this place did not advance Emma on to the next meet, this was a day to honor all that Emma has accomplished in her 4 years as a cross country runner. Emma has earned 4 varsity letters, qualified for regionals all 4 years, qualified for semi-state 3 out of the 4 years, earned All-Conference titles, earned a conference and sectional championship, all while showing phenomenal leadership and strong character to her team. Congratulations on a wonderful 4 years, Emma!!!
