Despite a photo finish for 2nd and 3rd places, MVXC fell to a perennial powerhouse, Princeton Community High School. The past few years, Princeton has been the team to beat and this season that appears not to have changed.
Jackson Craig blistered the field with a 17:18 for the 3.1 mile course at Brittlebank. Tommy Kelley had a late race surge but it wasn’t quite enough to overtake Braden Dike who recorded the 2nd place finish. Both were timed at 18:38. Running 3rd for Mt. Vernon was Danner Latshaw, who despite having a better opening race this year than he had a year ago, placed 8th with all 5 of Princeton’s top runners placing ahead of him. Rounding out the scoring for Mt. Vernon were Braden Henning in 9th and Mitchell Wilson in 10th.
MV will be back in action this Saturday, 8/18 at the Boonville Invite.
